Royal Gowns Over the Times

The Duchess of Cornwall, Catherine, is on her way to become a Style-Icon. The bridal dress was a modern replica of a Maria-Stuart styled dress with the Grace Kelly flair from 1956.  The pale ivory colored silk gown was from the famed British designer Alexander McQueen, the same as Princess Diana.  It was a beautiful ensemble of silk, lace and style.  She decided on a much shorter train to suit the small silhouette and the simple sophistication of the dress. The diamond tiara was borrowed  from the Queen’s collection. What could not be seen was the perfume but nevertheless noteworthy, “Creed Fleurissimo” the scent was created once for Grace Kelly.

Why Engagement Ring Settings Actually Matter

Diamond Engagement RingsIt’s an accepted fact that picking out both wedding rings and diamond engagement rings can be a stressful and aggravating experience.  This is mainly because every part of the ring matters, which can be rather confusing to men, who often do not recognize the difference between settings.  For men who would like to understand why the setting makes such a difference to women, here are a few reasons.

1)      The main reason why a setting makes such a difference is because it is the piece of metal that connect the diamond to the ring.  It is also what allows that expensive diamond to be shown off.  Consequently, the setting has to show off the diamond while protecting it.  This is especially true with large stones above the one carat diamond range as they can easily be lost if not set properly.

2)      Settings are not uniform.  While one setting may fit one diamond perfectly in terms of its protection/show off ratio, it may be totally inappropriate for another diamond.  In addition, there are several different types of settings, all of which can be used with any given diamond.

Settings are somewhat subject to the rule of fashion and what may be popular one year will often be unpopular the next.  Since most women would like a setting that is timeless and will always be in fashion, the setting is often more important than the diamonds themselves.  This is actually why it has become so popular for women to design their engagement and wedding rings themselves.

When a loved one or family member does the same, we gush and gasp and talk about the happy couple and the excitement of the wedding starts to build from day one. We discuss how he did it and analyze the ring and admire its beauty from the huge center diamond to the material it is made from, there is a lot to discuss.
